Eligible to vote and don’t have your Brown Ranch ballot yet?

Registered Steamboat Springs voters should have received their ballots for the city’s March 26 special election for the Brown Ranch annexation.

The ballots were mailed to voters’ mailing addresses on record through the statewide voter registration system, according to the city. For any voters who believe they are eligible in the special election but have not yet received a ballot, the city is providing the option for individuals to obtain a ballot in person at City Hall.

Voters must bring an acceptable proof of identity, including a valid Colorado driver’s license, a U.S. passport, a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement or paycheck, or a U.S. military identification card.

A full list of acceptable forms of identification can be found on the Colorado Secretary of State’s website at ColoradoSoS.com. Voter services are available at City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.

The special election is asking voters to support or reject the annexation agreement ordinance passed by City Council that proposes annexing 534 acres of land west of Steamboat known as Brown Ranch. The land is currently owned by the Yampa Valley Housing Authority.

To deliver their ballots, voters can use the 24-hour ballot drop box in the alley behind the historic downtown courthouse at 522 Lincoln Ave. There is also a ballot box inside of the city offices, which are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.

If voters plan to mail their ballots, the city is recommending they are sent no later than Tuesday. The city advises voters to deliver their ballots to the drop-boxes if they are returning them after that date. Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. March 26.

Voters with questions about the election can contact the city clerk’s office at 970-871-8248 or in-person at City Hall.
