Spring off to a chilly start, but Wednesday will be much warmer
Spring officially arrives Tuesday evening, when temperatures will be on their way back down close to 40 degrees.
"It's a clear and cool night, but we don't have a frost or freeze threat like last night," said WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell. The overnight low will dip into the upper 30s in many places across central North Carolina.
You may need a jacket on Wednesday morning, but by afternoon Raleigh should again see 70 degrees.

Rain arrives at week's end
Central North Carolina warms back in the low 70s for Wednesday. After that, temperatures are right around the 60-dgree mark – some days a touch cooler, some a touch warmer – through the coming weekend.

The sunny days give way to rain by Friday afternoon or evening. Models indicate the morning commute will be dry. The timing should become more clear as the front gets closer.
Once the rain starts, clouds and showers stick around through Saturday, Campbell said.

Some areas could see up to three inches of rain this weekend, particularly on the coast.
The upside? Friday's rain will wash away the pollen, said WRAL Meteorologist Mike Maze.
