The seasonally-adjusted US producer price index (PPI) for final demand rose by 0.6 per cent in February this year, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS).

Final demand prices increased by 0.3 per cent in January and edged down by 0.1 per cent in December last year.

On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index advanced by 1.6 per cent for the 12 months to February, the largest rise since moving up by 1.8 per cent for the 12 months to September 2023.

In February, nearly two-thirds of the rise in final demand prices can be traced to the index for final demand goods, which grew by 1.2 per cent—the largest increase since moving up 1.7 per cent in August 2023.

The index for final demand less foods, energy and trade services increased by 0.4 per cent in February after rising by 0.6 per cent in January. For the 12 months to February, such prices moved up by 2.8 per cent.
