The father of Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark says it would be the ‘ultimate dream’ for his son to sign for Newcastle United.

Former Magpie Lee Clark is loving his son’s rise through the ranks at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp, but has admitted it would do his matchday nerves a favour if he was playing in black and white, rather than red.

Despite making nearly 500 appearances as a player and almost 500 games as a manager, Clark told talkSPORT he’s mostly known now as ‘Bobby Clark’s dad’ after the 19-year-old's breakthrough into the Liverpool first-team.

The young midfielder has already won more major trophies than his old man - a fact Lee admits plenty of people have pointed out - having helped lead the Reds to Carabao Cup glory in the final against Chelsea in February.

Clark Jnr is one of many young players to have been promoted to the senior team under Klopp’s watch, with their young academy prospects likened to Manchester United’s famous ‘Class of 92’.

There’s a long way to go for any of the Reds starlets to emulate the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville or Paul Scholes, but Clark has certainly started brightly with 11 appearances this season, while he scored his first goal for the club in their 6-1 drubbing of Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

Clark joined Liverpool in 2021, with the Reds pinching him from Newcastle’s academy for the sum of £1.5million.

And while fans will be hoping he develops into a key player in Liverpool’s next generation and post-Klopp era, Clark Snr is hoping he will return to his roots… one day, at least.
