In order to draw more film enthusiasts to the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, a film club and a screening facility have been launched. There are plans to have other facilities to allow for holding screenings during the International Film Festival of
India (IFFI).

The new film screening facility built at a cost of Rs 19 lakh was unveiled in the conference hall of the premises on Friday.

“When the Ravindra Bhavan started in Margao, it was our dream to make it a centre for art and culture for South Goa. Just building infrastructure is not enough, we have to make it lively and it is now becoming a vibrant place. Though for the last IFFI we had planned to hold screenings, it was not as per the requirements. This time we will be preparing a plan of what works need to be done and complete it before IFFI,” said Margao MLA Digambar Kamat at the launch of film screening facility.

Former Ravindra Bhavan, Margao chairman Damu Naik suggested showing the film ‘Article 370’ as the first film at the new facility. Current chairman of Ravindra Bhavan Margao Rajendra Talak said the film club has received accreditation from the Federation of Film Societies of Western Region where members will be able to watch films. Plans are also underway to organise a five-day film festival post Lok Sabha elections.
