BC High has its next head football coach.
The school announced Friday morning that it has hired alum and former Lawrence Academy head coach Paul Zukauskas to be the next football coach. Zukauskas replaces Ed Mantie who spent three years at the helm on Morrissey Boulevard.
“We are excited to welcome Paul back to the BC High community as our head football coach,” said Athletic Director Tom Conley in a press release. “He is a proven and effective leader of young men who is genuinely invested in developing and mentoring his student athletes. Paul’s experience throughout all levels of athletics will allow our football players to learn from the best.”
Zukauskas was introduced to the team on Friday morning. After graduating from BC High in 1997 where he earned Boston Herald All-Scholastic honors, Zukauskas went on to have a stellar career as an offensive lineman at Boston College. In his senior year, Zukauskas was a captain and earned All-Big East Conference first-team selection and first-team All-America selection by the American Football Coaches Association.
He was drafted in 2001 by the Cleveland Browns where he spent four seasons. Zukauskas’ lone stop as a head coach was at Lawrence Academy where he helped engineer success. During his tenure from 2011-2017 the Spartans went 44-13 and won four ISL Championships.
“I would first like to thank Tom Conley, Principal Lewis, and President Regan for giving me the opportunity to return home to Boston College High School as head football coach and give back to the community that shaped me,” Zukauskas said in a release. “It’s a chance to inspire the next generation and impart the lessons I’ve learned both on and off the field. I’m excited to contribute to the legacy of BC High football, foster a culture of excellence, and help young men achieve their dreams, just as this school helped me to achieve mine.”
