Daniel Ricciardo will have Alex Volkanovski to thank should he win his first Australian Grand Prix later this month.

The Formula 1 star is yet to even get on the podium in his home GP, but following some tips from the UFC legend, that could soon change.

Taking to Instagram, the former featherweight champion spoke to a cardboard cutout of his Aussie compatriot.

Volkanovski offered some words of advice to the Visa Cash App RB driver, who has struggled in his opening two races of the 2024 season having finished 13th and 16th, respectively.

The 35-year-old said: "So what you do is, when you’re coming around the corner, you want to brake as late as you can.

"Not too late, where you’re gonna slide out as you're turning, but just before.

"You want to slow down as late as you can get to get them extra seconds.

"And then you're going to curl around and get some speed, youll make some time on that. There’s a couple of tips from The Volk.”

Ricciardo was quick to offer his appreciation, where he stated: "Haha first shout out goes to you when I put this advice to good use next week. Lezgobaybee."

The 34-year-old is yet to add to his eight Grand Prix wins since his success at Monza in 2021.

A fifth-placed finish at the Singapore GP in 2022 is the best the ex-Red Bull star has managed since that victory in Italy.

Reflecting on a poor performance in Saudi Arabia last weekend, Ricciardo remarked: "It was always going to be an uphill battle.

"We simply don’t have everything functioning at 100 per cent. We see a few flaws, honestly, with the car, so we’ve gotta get that fixed for the next one."

But he is choosing to look on the bright side, as he warned his F1 rivals that he means business in Melbourne.

He said: "The reason I’m staying optimistic is because I know that we had some things wrong.

"With a good car and everything sorted, I know we can do a lot better. So painful three days, but I don’t want it to take any confidence out of us.

“Hasn’t been the start that we wanted, but it’s Race 2, and Melbourne’s next.

"So yeah, big push for everyone to get it right and we’ll have a good weekend. I’ll obviously put this weekend behind I think, just push the team hard.
