The democracy watchers at For AR People were at the state Capitol today to keep an eye on a legislative committee meeting about Gov. Sarah Sanders’ latest pointless and mean-spirited attack on transgender Arkansans.
Members of the executive subcommittee of the Arkansas Legislative Council considered a request today to all but revoke Arkansans’ ability to change the gender listed on driver’s licenses and state-issue IDs or use an “X” instead of an “M” or “F.”
The committee passed the proposal along for consideration by the full Arkansas Legislative Council on Friday.
Arkansas Times reporter Mary Hennigan should have a full write-up later. In the meantime, read this unrolled thread of lively live tweets to get yourself all caught up.

And we’re getting ready for Executive Subcommittee! This will be a shorter one; the big issue is Gov. Sanders’ change to drivers licenses. Folks will be required to put their biological gender on the license instead of an “X” if they are nonbinary or transgender.
