Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh takes U-turn, says will contest Lok Sabha elections to fulfil promise
Earlier on March 3, Singh had said he would not be able to contest the elections from Asansol.

Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh took a U-turn on Wednesday week after opting out of the Lok Sabha elections race saying he will contest the general election to fulfil the promise that he had made to his society, people and mother.
Taking to X, the Bhojpuri star informed about it and said that everyone’s blessings and cooperation are expected. Earlier on March 3, Singh had said he would not be able to contest the elections from Asansol, just a day after his name was included in the first list of 195 candidates announced by the BJP.
His decision to opt out of the general election race on March 3 came after a significant social media backlash against the singer’s songs that contain objectionable references to Bengali women.
After his name was included in the BJP list, he extended his gratitude to BJP leadership for trusting him and announcing his name as the candidate from Asansol. Adding that, he said but due to some reason, he won’t be able to contest the elections from Asansol.
The selection of Singh, who hails from Bihar, for the Asansol seat had caused a controversy. Many have raised concerns over his discography, which includes several songs with derogatory references to Bengali women.
The criticism on social media did not go unnoticed, and the BJP reportedly anticipated that Singh’s candidacy might harm its chances in Asansol. Thus, a decision was made to drop him, and he was informed accordingly. Following this, Singh tweeted that he was withdrawing from the race.
The current representative of the Asansol Lok Sabha seat is Shatrughan Sinha from the Trinamool Congress party. Sinha won the by-poll held in 2022 after Babul Supriyo, a singer-politician who won the seat for BJP in the 2014 and 2019 general elections, switched to Trinamool Congress. TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee had tweeted about the strength and resilience of the people of West Bengal.

Ravi Shankar Prasad says CAA does not deprive any Indian of their citizenship
Prasad said Kejriwal’s peculiar statement came that outsiders will take away jobs due to the CAA. He asked what kind of logic is this? He said the people who will come to India are those who are persecuted on the basis of their religion. He asked is it not India’s moral duty and constitutional and cultural right to provide them with legal means of citizenship protection?

The BJP on Wednesday responded to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s criticism of the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said the Citizenship Amendment Act does not deprive any Indian of their citizenship, but gives citizenship to those who are persecuted based on their faith.
The BJP leader said Kejriwal’s peculiar statement came that outsiders will take away jobs due to the CAA. He asked what kind of logic is this? He said the people who will come to India are those who are persecuted on the basis of their religion. He asked is it not India’s moral duty and constitutional and cultural right to provide them with legal means of citizenship protection?
Prasad talking to the media said everybody should be assured that nobody’s jobs will be taken away. He said he wanted to stop those who are trying to spread communal tension in the name of CAA. He asked Kejriwal to stop spreading lies. He further added that parties from Kerala and Tamil Nadu should stop spreading hatred.
The Central government on Monday gave notification for the rules for the implementation of the CAA, 4 years after the law was passed by the Parliament in 2019. This law gives fast track citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh who came to India before December 31, 2014.
Earlier today the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal attacked the Modi government over implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act and called it dirty vote bank politics aimed at taking away jobs which are meant for Indian youth. The AAP leader added if those people are brought to India and selectively settled in constituencies where the BJP government is politically weak, the vote bank of the BJP will rise. He added this increase in vote bank will give BJP a big political advantage in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
