Tadhg Beirne has admitted Ireland have used comments from the Scottish camp as fuel for their fire in previous encounters, adding to the sense that Saturday’s clash is becoming the Six Nations’ ultimate grudge match.
Ireland’s World Cup win over Scotland was a bad-tempered affair that ended with Peter O’Mahony famously rubbing Blair Kinghorn’s nose in it, saying: “You know they were in the press beforehand saying they were going to knock us off our winning streak. And you know how they had figured us out and worked us out, and I don’t think they did tonight”.
