Amaarae Teases Deluxe ‘Fountain Baby’ as She Drops ‘Angels in Tibet’ Video

Long live Fountain Baby! Amaarae will stay in the Afro-infused pop world she created with her sophomore album for at least the next few months. At least that’s what she tells Rolling Stone as she premieres the video for standout single “Angels in Tibet.”
The Yavez Anthonio-directed visual was shot inside the historic Los Angeles Theater and sees Amaarae backed by a pair of TikTok dancers — choreographer Hamly Tavarez and Beaulexx — who helped the single reach more than 51 million streams on Spotify.
“We wanted to keep it like simple but punchy and sexy. ‘Angels’ has this godly atmosphere,” Amaarae says. “The LA Theater was that and has this amazing, Roman/Venetian theater feel. It really gave the music video just this power and this romantic field.”
“Hamly just kept supporting the record in his dance classes. Every time he would do a class, the record would just shoot up and shoot up and shoot up, and more people would start using the sound,” she adds. “He and Beaulexx pulled up and did their little number that was fire.”
Amaarae just started her first-ever headlining tour in Europe, where she’s channeling the “world of Fountain Baby” onstage.
“At first, it was just a lot of nerves because I felt like the Fountain Baby era has just been so immersive. The music is super immersive,” she says. “I knew I had to bring that same experience to the stage.”
The singer will kick off her U.S. tour on March 19 at New York City’s Warsaw — making her way to Chicago, Atlanta, and Houston before wrapping in Los Angeles. She’ll also perform at several festivals, including J. Cole’s Dreamville and Jack Harlow’s Gazebo Festival.
Amaarae also reveals that a remix of “Angels in Tibet” is on the way, and she’s trying to secure her “dream remix” of the song, though she won’t share who’s on it. “Keep me in your prayers and keep your fingers crossed,” she says. “When we lock it in, I will literally DM you, and you’ll be the first to know.”
She’s also planning to drop a deluxe version of the album, which Rolling Stone ranked as No. 26 on the 100 Best Albums of 2023, and tap into a “bit more Afro-infused sound.”
“I think that the most beautiful thing is that the way that it’s resonating with critics, it’s also resonating with the people,” she says. “I think those two things going hand in hand just feels amazing. And it feels like a testament to all the hard work that we put in.”
Amaarae also hopes to release an EP later this year, though she’s still deciding what direction to take things in. “It’s gonna be a good summer,” she teases.
