A new Scoops Homemade Ice Cream shop looks to be close to opening at a busy intersection in downtown Little Rock.

A fresh sign is up at the revamped building at the corner of Third and Broadway, across from the Pulaski County Administration Building.

Scoops Homemade Ice Cream has been a Hot Springs hot spot since 2003. The Little Rock store will be their second shop.

Scoops’ schtick is homemade small batches, and their brand is all splashy pastels, sprinkles and rainbows. Kind of reminds us of another downtown Little Rock ice cream shop we know. In fact, a side-by-side inspection of Loblolly’s and Scoops’ websites and Instagram feeds brings to mind the charitable platitude that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

But who’s zooming who? The proof is in the scoops, and a taste test is in order. The Scoops website suggests an early April opening. We’ll be ready.

So, is there room enough in this town for both the new kid, Scoops Homemade Ice Cream, and hometown favorite Loblolly Creamery? Houses could be divided over this.
