Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 338.0 points down at 21997.7 amid selling in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Marshall Machines, Shreeoswal Seeds, Commercial Syn Bags, Nandani Creation and R K Swamy, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 7 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 43 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, ITC, ICICI Bank, Kotak Bank, Cipla and Bajaj Finance were among top gainers during the day, while Power Grid, Coal India Ltd, Adani Ports SEZ, Adani Ent. and NTPC ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 906.07 points down at 72761.89.
Traders piled up positions in sectors, while selling was witnessed in sectors during the day.
