‘Ramadan feels different this year’ — Ireland’s Muslim community on how they will mark their holy month
The month of fasting and charity work has taken on a heightened significance due to crises in Palestine and Sudan

This year the Islamic month of Ramadan started yesterday on Monday March 11 and, depending on the sighting of the new crescent moon, will end on April 10 or 11.
Yesterday, many Muslims in Ireland embarked on a month of fasting from dawn until sunset. In addition to not eating or drinking anything for 14 hours, they will be focusing on acts of worship and charity, as well as refraining from things like lying or swearing (which Muslims shouldn’t do at any time of year).
