Another similar incident occurred a month after the crash of a Russian military plane carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war. According to reports in Russian media, a Russian military cargo plane has caught fire and crashed in the Ivanovo region, northeast of Moscow.

The plane, an IL-76, crashed on tuesday when it tried to land with an engine on fire. A video of the rising of the cane from the accident site has gone viral on social media.

According to reports, at least 15 people on the plane died in the accident. Russia's Defense Ministry said the plane crashed shortly after takeoff. It is also said that the accident occurred due to the aircraft engine catching fire.

Earlier in January, a Russian military plane carrying 65 Ukrainian service members and six crew members and three others crashed. The ministry accused ukraine of shooting down a planeload of prisoners of war. The ministry said the prisoners were being taken to the Belgorod region for exchange. Two senior Russian lawmakers accused, without evidence, that the plane was downed by missiles fired by Ukrainian forces.

However, ukraine rejected the claims and accused russia of providing false information to its citizens. Instead, it warned against sharing "unverified information". The Belgorod region, which borders ukraine, has come under frequent attacks by ukraine in recent months, including a december missile attack that killed 25 people.
