It has been reported that the Union home Ministry is likely to announce the provisions related to the citizenship amendment act (CAA) today. It is said that a notification may be issued regarding the implementation of this controversial law.

The news comes less than a month after home minister amit shah insisted that the citizenship amendment act (CAA) would be implemented ahead of the lok sabha elections in april or May.

Home minister amit shah said at an event in Delhi, "The citizenship amendment act will definitely be announced. It will come into effect before the elections. Let no one doubt about it."

The law was passed by parliament in december 2019, leading to the granting of citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Muslim-majority countries such as pakistan and Bangladesh.

Lakhs of people across india took to the streets to protest against the law. Thousands of people staged a month-long protest in Delhi's shaheen Bagh. The law was put on hold after the protests drew worldwide attention.

In this context, home minister amit shah said last month that the Act is being made only to grant citizenship to those who have come to india after being persecuted in pakistan, afghanistan and bangladesh and that the Muslim brothers in india are being misled against the Citizenship Amendment Act. He explained that this law is not meant to deprive anyone of citizenship.
