During a recent bilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi, UAE foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan reportedly emphasised the necessity of elevating the bilateral relationship with Bangladesh to a partnership level.
Abdullah identified the signing of the CEPA as a significant step in achieving this goal.
Additionally, he underscored the importance of activating the Joint Business Council (JBC) to bolster economic collaboration between the two countries.
At the meeting, Bangladesh foreign minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud presented a letter of invitation from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the UAE President, inviting him to visit Bangladesh in celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations.
Dr. Hasan recalled the historical ties between Bangladesh and the UAE, lauding the UAE’s progress under visionary leadership and highlighting Bangladesh’s achievements under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s guidance.
The ministers reviewed existing bilateral cooperation and emphasised exploring new areas such as energy security, food security, environment, renewable energy, and people-to-people communication to enhance trade ties.
The Bangladesh foreign minister showcased investment opportunities in Bangladesh, particularly in the Matarbari Exclusive Economic Zone and infrastructure development projects.
The meeting, attended by Bangladesh ambassador to the UAE Md Abu Zafar and director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ West Asia wing, Md Shafiqur Rahman, signifies the commitment of both countries to strengthen bilateral ties and explore mutually beneficial opportunities for cooperation.
