10 Softest Sheets for Unbeatably Cozy Sleep

One of life's little luxuries that make a major difference.

By Christine Flammia and

They say you should spend money on experiences rather than on items, but whoever "they" is clearly hasn't invested in the items that turn a daily necessity into an experience. We've taught you how to invest in a mattress—whether you want it firm, soft, luxurious, or hotel-style. We've taught back sleepers, side sleepers, and stomach sleepers what pillows they should buy. And, we've had our experts test all sorts of sheets. Now that we think of it, sleep is the number one experience we would invest in. Nothing helps you feel better than a healthy eight, nine, or 10+ hours of shut eye. For some sleepers, super soft sheets are the cornerstone that this experience is built on.

Here, we rounded up the 10 softest sheets we've ever used. Most are made from cotton or some sort of cotton blend, but their differences come up in terms of how they're woven. Some are crisp and get soft over time. Some are soft like a worn-in T-shirt is soft, and others have a silkier soft feel to them. Depending on the weave, they might be airier for hot sleepers or tighter and heavier for cold sleepers. Either way, we found something for everyone. From a silky sateen to luxe cashmere, these are our editors' favorite soft sheets—the softest sheets you can buy right now.

Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set

Pros
  • Possibly the softest sheet material we've felt
  • Oversized Fit
  • Great temperature regulation
Cons
  • Feels different from cotton—more silky

If you've got a big, luxury mattress, you'll be grateful for the depth on these sheets, which fit mattresses up to 20”. The bamboo fabric is breathable, moisture-wicking, and great for anyone sharing a set of sheets with a sleeper who runs at a different temperature.

And before you disregard this, we also were skeptical about bamboo sheets. But after careful testing, we realized these are the best damn sheets on the planet. Out of the box, the bamboo viscose fabric is softer than any cotton sheets, and they hold up just as well over time.

Soft Like Your Favorite Shirt

Ralph Lauren Organic Cotton Oxford Stripe Sheeting

Soft Like Your Favorite Shirt

Ralph Lauren Organic Cotton Oxford Stripe Sheeting

Pros
  • Of all the sheets on this list, these age the best
  • Shirt-inspired details are a nice touch
  • High quality organic cotton
Cons
  • A bit stiff out of the box
  • Expensive

Ralph Lauren took the look of its classic oxford shirt and turned it into a pair of sheets. No, these aren't full on heavyweight oxford fabric, but they have a bit more of that than other sheets. They're weighty, crisp to the touch, and have details similar to an oxford shirt—button closures and contrast topstitching.

Now, that might not scream "soft sheets!," and, out of the box, they're not the softest on this list. These sheets only get really good after a few wash and dry cycles. Like that favorite oxford shirt, they get perfectly soft overtime, with the ideal weight and drape. Don't be afraid to run these through regular hot cycles.

Softest Made in U.S.A. Sheets

Softest Made in U.S.A. Sheets

American Blossom Linens Cotton Bed Sheet Set

Pros
  • High quality cotton stands up over time
  • Sheets made for hotels, so you get that perfect hotel bedding at home
  • Surprisingly affordable
Cons
  • Don't get the option for a lot of colors
  • A bit too crisp and cool for some

A lot of sheets are made with cotton from the states, but very few sets are actually sewn in the U.S.A. Enter: These. American Blossom Linens has a factory in Thomaston, Georgia, where sheets have been sewn since 1899. In a time when a lot of manufacturing has gone elsewhere, it's nice to see brands that are dedicated to employing American craftspeople.

Heartwarming story, sure, whatever. What about sheets? Are they any good?

There's actually a good chance you've already slept on American Blossom Linens sheets, because the company mostly does work supplying hotel chains like Hyatt, Marriott, and Sheraton. So, if you're looking for those crisp but soft hotel sheets, buy from the people that make sheets for hotels.

Stretchiest Soft Sheets

Purple SoftStretch Sheets

Stretchiest Soft Sheets

Purple SoftStretch Sheets

Pros
  • Incredibly soft out of the box
  • Jersey fabric is nice and lightweight
  • Stretchy—fit any mattress height and won't slip off
Cons
  • Minimal color options
  • Don't last as long as cotton sheets

I have a Purple mattress and thus am partial to these Purple sheets, which are super stretchy and easy to put on a mattress as thick as a my own. The fitted sheet doesn't rely on flimsy elastic here: There's a thick elastic band that will go right on and not slip off.

Again, these sheets are predominantly woven from a bamboo viscose fabric. Like those Cozy Earth Sheets, they are super soft from day one. The downside is that they tend to not last as long as cotton sheets.

Quince Classic Organic Percale Sheet Set

Pros
  • Percale gets lovely soft over time
  • Nice for keeping cool
  • Budget-friendly
Cons
  • Elastic is not super grippy
  • Those who prefer super soft sheets might not love percale

Percale is a crowd favorite among those who like their sheets soft. It's the typical weave you'll find in hotels. It's cool to the touch and luxuriously soft. Quince's set is high quality for a reasonable price. They're silkier than a jersey cotton but not slippery like a sateen. An overall great choice for most beds and most sleepers.

Buffy Breeze Sheet Set

Pros
  • Super soft from day one
  • Great option for hot sleepers
  • A ton of color options
Cons
  • Thin for some
  • As for the alternatives to cotton, we prefer bamboo viscose

Buffy's bread and butter is making cooling sheets for hot sleepers, which is especially useful during the warmer months. The sheets are made from an airy eucalyptus tencel, which is similar to the bamboo viscose options earlier in the list. These sheets are great for hot sleepers. They're super soft, and they drape like a nice jersey fabric.

Softest Cashmere Sheets

Brooklinen Heathered Cashmere Core Sheet Set

Pros
  • Luxe feeling, incredibly soft to the touch
  • Nice color choices
  • Warm, but not as warm as flannel
Cons
  • Pills quickly
  • Obviously hot sleepers should stay away from these

If you tend to get cold in the night, there's perhaps nothing cozier or more luxe than sheets blended with cashmere. Just five-percent cashmere gives these sheets from Brooklinen an incredibly soft hand feel, like an incredibly lightweight sweater.

They're not as hot as you would expect, but the downside to this set is that they retain more heat than any of the full cotton options on the list.

Pros
  • Silky feel is ideal for some sleepers
  • Good price
  • One of the best options for temperature regulating
Cons
  • Sateen might feel a bit too silky for some that want soft

Sateen is a classic weave for soft sheets that have a silky overlay. Riley Home makes a set that we found to be simple and executes well on the prompt. The set feels soft and won't let you run too hot or too cool.

Parachute Home Brushed Cotton Bed Bundle

Now 15% Off
Pros
  • Good for mid-temperature sleepers
  • Not as cool and crisp as percale, not unbearably hot like flannel.
  • Can get a full bedding set
Cons
  • Pricey
  • Sleeps a bit warmer than a percale cotton

Parachute is one of the pricier brands around but its stuff really holds up—even after multiple washes. This is a whole brushed cotton set, including the duvet, but you can pick and choose the items you want. For a total bed overhaul, this is a great set.

As for the fabric, we found this brushed cotton to be a lot softer than the percales and sateens of the world. For us, it sits somewhere between a hotel sheet and a classic flannel sheet. It runs a little bit warm, but it could still be a year-round sheet set.

Softest Flannel Sheets

L.L.Bean Ultrasoft Comfort Flannel Sheet Set

Pros
  • Seriously soft
  • Unbeatable price
  • Simple tried-and-true color options
Cons
  • Might get linty in the dryer
  • Obviously too hot for year-round use

There are all of these new, fun DTC brands popping up in the bedding space, but don't sleep on the classics. L.L.Bean's comfort flannel is a tried-and-true favorite.

As if we were expecting anything different, these sheets were just as soft as we remember them. When winter comes and you switch out your warm weather sheets for flannel, it's as if you've never felt anything so soft. These might be the softest on the list, but they run seriously warm as a consequence.
