Munda kickstarts National Dairy Mela in Jharkhand

Saturday marked the inauguration of the highly anticipated 3-day National Dairy Mela and Agricultural Exhibition in Chaibasa, West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, by Minister of Tribal Affairs, Agriculture, and Farmers Welfare, Shri Arjun Munda.

The event, aimed at fostering agricultural advancements and promoting dairy science, drew attention to the vital role of scientific methods in boosting milk production among the country’s farmers and cattle rearers.

Addressing the audience, Minister Munda highlighted the significance of the event in propelling agricultural development, particularly in regions like Kolhan, which have historically lagged behind.

Expressing his commitment to advancing agricultural practices in the area, he revealed plans to establish a center of the National Dairy Research Institute in the vicinity to support milk production efforts.

During his visit, Minister Munda engaged with Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) and local farmers, acknowledging their indispensable contribution to the nation’s economy. He encouraged them to leverage government schemes like PM Fasal Bima and PM Kisan Samridhi for their benefit.

Dr. Dhir Singh, Director of the National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, emphasized the event’s role in fostering innovation in livestock management and dairy processing, aligning with the vision of a developed India by 2047.

With over 6,000 participants, including farmers, input dealers, entrepreneurs, students, and government officials, the fair showcased cutting-edge technologies from various research institutes and district-level departments.

More than 50 exhibition stalls demonstrated agricultural advancements and showcased livestock, including cows and goats.

The event also featured farmer-scientist dialogues, seminars, and medical camps, aimed at educating farmers on the latest agricultural and animal husbandry practices. Additionally, it recognized farmers excelling in areas like vegetable production, crop management, and dairy processing, further motivating them to continue their remarkable work.

MP from West Singhbhum district, Smt. Geeta Koda, agricultural scientists, FPOs, and farmers graced the inaugural event, underscoring the collaborative effort towards rural development. Organized by ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana, the fair serves as a crucial platform for promoting livestock and agricultural advancements in tribal areas.

The National Dairy Mela and Agricultural Exhibition, scheduled from March 9-11, 2024, symbolize a collective stride towards agricultural prosperity and rural empowerment in Jharkhand’s tribal heartland.
