The Carolina Panthers are trading edge rusher Brian Burns to the New York Giants, according to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

Rapoport posted on the social media platform X that the Panthers will receive a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick in return. He did not specify which years the picks would be.

Burns, who turns a 26 in April, will receive a five-year deal worth up to $150 million with $87.5 million guaranteed.

Burns' $30 million average annual salary makes him the NFL's second-highest paid defensive end behind San Francisco's Nick Bosa.

The trade comes after the Panthers announced last week they would use the franchise tag on Burns.

Burns finished the 2023 season with 8 sacks.

The 2019 first-rounder has 46.0 sacks in five seasons and has been to two Pro Bowls. He's one of just five players in the league to record 7.0 or more sacks in each of the last five seasons.

In 2022, there were reports the Panthers turned down two first-round picks from the Los Angeles Rams for Burns.
