Thousands upon thousands of Johannesburg residents – in homes, schools, clinics and businesses - face a second week without water as reservoirs supplying vast swathes of Randburg and the western expanse of the city remain crippled.
On Sunday, seven reservoirs drained empty, leaving large parts of Randburg – home to more than 300 000 people in homes dotted across 150 square kilometres - high and dry.
The prolonged water outage was set in motion by a lightning strike which downed the Eikenhof pump station on Saturday last week. The facility pumps water to more than half of the city and fell victim to another outage at the weekend.
