In Bawaal, varun plays the role of a self-obsessed high school History teacher who is in a strained marriage. His compelling portrayal earned him much love and appreciation from his fans. And now, the actor has sent them into meltdown once again by giving a moving speech while accepting the Best Actor honour for the film. “When the nominations were announced, Bhushanji (Kumar) very sweetly told me that tum hi jeet rahe ho isliye toh aaye ho (you are only winning it because that’s why you have come),” varun jokes as he begins his speech.

varun continued, “When I was informed about my nomination and told that this was a popular choice and there would be public voting, so I got extremely excited thinking that I could win this. But when I saw the nominations, I couldn’t believe it that someone would vote for me more than Sunny (Deol) sir and salman (Khan) bhai. My vote will go to them for Gadar 2 and tiger 3. But Bawaal is a very special movie in my life. I think when it was released, it was met with a lot of controversies. people had a lot of mixed response to it that it was politically correct or incorrect. But as the year ended, it became one of the most watched movies on OTT. It got 22.6 million views which is huge. The reason why I’m saying this is now we know that the movie has stood the test of time.”
