Man shot, hospitalized after standoff with law enforcement

A man is in the hospital Sunday after a standoff with police between the man and law enforcement on Sunday in Scotland Neck ended in a shooting.

According to the chief of the Scotland Neck Police Department, authorities began negotiating with the man at 2:50 p.m. The location of the standoff is currently unknown.

The police chief said at some point during the negotiation, officers fired at and struck the man. It is unclear who shot first or when the shooting happened.

EMS arrived at the scene within a minute of the shooting and flew the man to the hospital.

The extent of the man’s injuries is unknown.
