Personal despair aside, I'm glad we finally have release dates for these two (and comparatively soon ones at that). TTYD coming out at the end of May will sting for me specifically but I suppose it'll make picking it up as an end-of-school treat feel all the better 😊

Excited for the release dates. But I checked the preorders and while I expected Paper Mario to be a full priced game I did not expect an HD remaster to be full price when Metroid Prime was less.

Well, time to buy some fresh vouchers.

So as of now Nintendo is releasing no games for the second half of 2024 then

Well, I already have the GameCube version of TTYD but I want to get the Switch version as fast as possible, however looks like May 2024 will be my PS5 Fat purchase day.

Paper Mario is sooner than I thought, and Luigi's Mansion is A LOT sooner than I thought (but I don't care, as I'm not getting that one)

Confirming these release dates just makes me extra curious for what they have for the back half of the year. We know pretty much nothing of Nintendo’s Q3/4 plans.

Interesting that Nintendo's moved to Thursday releases now. May 2nd (Endless Ocean Luminous), May 23rd (TTYD) and June 27th (LM2) are all Thursdays rather than the normal Friday release.

In any case April and July are empty which is very promising for the chances of there being an April general Direct. Maybe do another Prime shadow drop like February last year.

the height of summer is not really when I envisage playing a Luigi's Mansion game.

Excited for both. I’m not usually hyped for remakes but these are some of my favorite games on their respective systems. Glad I’ll be able to play them in within the next 2-3 months.

Cannot wait for TTYD. Also Dark Moon exists. Really just wish they were porting the first one.

I’ll get it but $60 for a 20 year old game…that’s rough. Especially considering really easy to play on steam deck.

@RR529 EO3 is so early in the month it might as well be the April game, plus there is NOTHING else that week, and barely anything around it. It's biggest competition is Stellar Blade, Sony's biggest and were it not for Helldivers ONLY first-party exclusive for the year, but that's again on a different platform. It's closest direct competition is Eiyuden on 4/22, SaGa on 4/25, and BIOMUTANT on 5/14. I'm a massive fan of BIOMUTANT, and the world's foremost THQNordic apologist, and even I'm not expecting much from that. EO3 has been given EVERY handicap and room to breath as it can get. Way more than Advance Wars got...

Can people chill now about Nintendo having a slow year? Nintendo is still averaging one new first-party release every month (Mario vs DK, Another Code, Princess Peach Showtime, Endless Ocean, TTYD, Luigi's Mansion 2) and we're getting a slew of great third-party games as well. Nintendo wouldn't frontload all this into the first half of the year unless they still have something big up their sleeves for the latter half.

It's still a better year than 2018, where the only Nintendo games were a mediocre Kirby, an unfinished Mario Tennis, a divisive Mario Party with a miniscule number of boards, and direct ports of Tropical Freeze and Captain Toad with no substantial new content at all. That was the whole year. It's only saving grace was Smash Ultimate, which came so late in the year it was practically a 2019 game.

Nintendo always likes to play their cards close to their chest, so even if we aren't getting a Switch 2 this year, I'm not concerned at all about the rest of the year. The last game we know about releases in June, and we'll probably get a Direct that month to show us what else is in store. Now is the time for easy ports/remakes and bringing back niche titles.

I think this year we could still get a new Rythm Heaven, Wind Waker + Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 2 & 3, a remaster of Chibi-Robo 1 & 2, the rumored Kid Icarus Uprising remaster, and maybe even a new Wario Land game (although Good Feel clearly wouldn't be the ones developing it; maybe WayForward, since Nintendo trusted them enough to do Advance Wars). We'll also probably get something Kirby, and for that I'm predicting a free NSO-exclusive City Trial battle royale.

Ooh nice! I need to get around to playing the original TTYD before the remake comes out so I guess it’s time to do that 😂

But nothing from Nintendo for July onwards, I would expect a direct in time that will announce at least 3 games for the 2nd half of 2024 to occur.

Day 1 for Mario for me. Loved this one on the GC and Paper Mario are my favourite kind of Mario games.

Darn, announcements like this usually mean we're not getting a Direct for a bit. Hope we won't have to wait until June.

Late spring/early summer is what I was expecting for TTYD. Fine by me! Just need to preorder now. Glad Luigi's Mansion 2 has a date too, though I'm skipping it. My 3DS copy is fine.

I am tempted for LM2, but not sure. I don't know if having already done 3 this will be too similar, but just a bit lesser? I did enjoy Luigi's Mansion a great deal though. Hmm. Maybe not a release date pick up, but possible down the line.

@Grumblevolcano I noticed this with Side Order, and I thought I was the only one who did… I seriously thought it was an error when I, residing on the east coast of the US, was able to access it at 8 PM that Thursday. This makes sense now, though.

Sweet! Haven't bought a new nintendo game this year with the exception of PoP Lost Crown. Looks like TTYD might be the first unless I'm forgetting about something else.

What a great May and June for me as I haven’t played either of these games.
I prefer Luigi mansion out of the two though.

So, I, uhh, didn't know there was a new Endless Ocean game coming out. Is that the one from the Wii where on the surface it's a virtual fish tank, but beneath the surface actually so much more of a game? Am I thinking of something else?

Furthermore, I've never actually played Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, but I've heard so much about how it's such a good game that I've been itching to try it. Is it similar to Paper Mario on the N64 Switch Online app? I was thinking of trying that and seeing if I liked it.

I really look forward to Paper Mario TTYD, but I probably will only have time with the Switch until a bit later, in July. Until then, the Switch has been taken over by my partner, who is playing and loving Persona 5 Royal, sadly both a bit far away from me at the moment.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy and Persona 3 Reload will do until then.

@AccessibleDaydream It's a new game, you can see the announcement at the end of the last Nintendo Partner Showcase (Idk if I can post links here). It seems this new one is going to have an online multiplayer mode where you can go around and take pictures of sea life with a lot of other people from around the globe. Not my cup of tea, but could be fun if you liked the Wii one!

The first half of the year is being GREAT for the Switch. I mean, look at how it's turned out to be!
Prince of Persia, Another Code, Splatoon DLC, Mario vs DK, Tomb Raider, Pentiment, Penny's Big Breakaway, Unicorn Overlord, Princess Peach, Kingdom Come, Grounded, Endless Ocean, Paper Mario, Eiyuden Chronicles, Super Monkey Ball, Luigi's Mansion 2...

And for the second half, despite knowing very little (waiting for a June Direct), so far we've got Fantasy Life i, Epic Mickey, Ys X, Decapolice, The Plucky Squire, Little Nightmares 3 and Ender Magnolia. Not bad!

Nah, I' m good. I still have the original Paper Mario Thousand Year Door for my Gamecube a long with Luigi's Mansion 2 I still have for my Nintendo 3DS. I can play them any time whenever I want anyway

I’ve never played TTYD, but I’ll probably get it at some point due to how well regarded it is. I played Paper Mario on NSO a while back and thought it was good. I picked up the Super Mario RPG remake but have not played it yet. I won’t buy TTYD until I’ve played Super Mario RPG so I don’t stack my backlog with too many similar unplayed games.

I was hoping for Paper Mario to be in April for my birth month. Odd how it's in the same month as Endless Ocean, so that's too bad for that game. It's been so long, I'm looking forward to experiencing one of my favorite Mario RPGS many years later!

Luigi's timing is more expected since it was already announced for Summer. LM2 HD looks like more of a simple remaster but since Paper Mario looks like an actual remake, it'd be nice if that had a little more content to it.

Too bad we didn't get to see more footage of either, but so happy that we now know the exact release dates of TTYD and Luigi's Mansion 2 and even more so since they're relatively close!
Since there are literally no Nintendo games confirmed for the second half of the year (the first one has been great for both those with almost 1 game a month and all the third parties as others also mentioned), I definitely expect a Direct by June if not earlier - I wouldn't exclude even a Switch 2 reveal despite the rumors, but of course we'll just have to see what Nintendo has in store for us!

Interesting as it feels they have moved Luigi up a few months. Leaving Nintendo with nothing in the line up from July - March 2025.
(March is the month I’m expecting switch 2 to launch along with the ‘simultaneous’ release of Pokemon Leg Z on both switch and switch 2 plus any other launch games)

That's nice, but it would be nicer to get some brand new Nintendo games, not just remakes and remasters. I guess Princess Peach will be their swansong for the Switch, and the next new title will have to wait until Switch 2.

Edit: forgot about Endless Ocean, that one is also a first-party game, right?

Yay Dark Moon, boo TTYD. I’ve played them both enough, so neither of these interest me now. I’ll probably grab DM when and if i ever want to experience it another time.

I'll never understand TTYD's massive popularity. Not a bad game by any means, but it's nowhere near as charming as the original Paper Mario.

And a port of Luigi's Mansion 2?? Once gain, its not a bad game, but it's by far it's the worst of the trilogy.

I’ve been saving my vouchers for paper mario. I can live without the HD version of Luigis Mansion 2 because I have it on 3DS. But it’s an amazing game.

Playing through LM3 with my daughter was one of the greatest video game experiences of my life, so there’s no way I won’t pick this up even though I’ve got the 3DS version. It only has to be 30% as good as #3 and I’ll be perfectly happy

Hope Thousand Year Door is successful enough to see Nintendo roll back the toad mandate and awful combat of sticker star, colour splash and origami king for the next entry.

Both great games, but I think I’ll pass. I find I collect Nintendo remakes/remasters more than I actually play them. I love Advance Wars, but it’s still in the plastic, you know? It’s not alone either.

I’ll probably buy Princess Peach for my wife and the kids (after the demo, it’s definitely more for them than me), but this is sort of looking like the first year since the Switch launched that I might not buy anything on the console for the first half of the year for myself directly (though Berserk Boy and Umbraclaw are tempting… and will largely depend on how much I like the Stellar Blade demo when that drops in a more official capacity). Sort of weird feeling. Hope there’s something new announced for the second half of the year.

@Polvasti I still think we'll be getting Metroid Prime 4 as a cross-gen title.

Both great games. GameCube copy still holds up well and LM2 still plays great with 3d slider on. Will pick up used when I find a good price.

@Not_Soos We all knew TTYD and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD were coming this year though and yeah they have a ton of ports and remasters they can still release but I think most people are ready for actual new games on newer hardware.

Its nice to revisit and/or check out missed Gamecube and Wii ports but that's not going to completely drive a system in a market where it's competitors are releasing brand new cutting edge software.
