Wayne Rooney admitted he ‘doesn’t have a clue what I’m doing’ when it comes to social media, as the Manchester United legend reacted to some of his most iconic Twitter posts.

Rooney joined the now global platform when it was still in its infancy, and more than once showed how he couldn’t quite get to grips with it - to hilarious results.

From a short-but-sweet message about Mr Bean, to declaring his love for Whitney Houston, Rooney’s posts are loved by fans, with his grasp of social media comparable to a technologically-challenged grandad who still has dial-up internet.

One of Rooney’s most iconic Tweets features his old mate Rio Ferdinand, where the former striker asked his fellow Old Trafford great if he needed a lift to training.

Apparently didn’t understand what a DM is.

Joining Ferdinand on TNT Sports’ commentary team for Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Everton on Sunday, Rooney - who played for both clubs - was quizzed on his Twitter mishaps.

Asked about his infamous and very un-private message to the defender, Rooney replied with a shrug: "I don’t know!

“I remember doing it and sending it, but I didn’t have a clue whether it was just going to you, or if everyone could see it. I didn’t know what was going on.

“I think you were the first on Twitter in the dressing room and remember you kept talking about it, so I thought I’d try it, but I didn’t have a clue what I was doing!
