THE GAME: For the second consecutive night, the Dodgers’ game was stopped by rain and canceled. They trailed the Cincinnati Reds, 4-0, after the top of the fifth inning on Friday night at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz.
HITTING REPORT: Reds right-hander Nick Martinez retired the first 12 Dodgers batters in order, six on strikeouts.
PITCHING REPORT: Non-roster invitee Justin Wilson struck out two of the first three Reds. He has given up two runs on five hits and a walk in four innings this spring but also leads the Dodgers with 10 strikeouts. … Ryan Yarbrough went 3⅓ innings, the most by a Dodgers pitcher in a Cactus League game this spring (Tyler Glasnow went four innings in a “B” game). He allowed two runs on three hits and two walks.
DEFENSE REPORT: The first ball hit to Mookie Betts at his new position (shortstop) was a ground ball that went off his back-hand attempt and into left field for a single. The second ball was a ground ball that seemed like a potential double play. But Gavin Lux’s throw from second base bounced to first base and the runner just beat it out. Lux bounced the throw on the only ground ball hit to him but Freddie Freeman scooped it for the out. “It’s going to take repetitions,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “I don’t think anyone expected it to be seamless.” … Third baseman Max Muncy made the best defensive play of the night. Muncy handled Stuart Fairchild’s hard ground ball down the line in the fourth inning, throwing Fairchild out.
