Pope gets another boundary. A thick outside edge past slips. He follows it up with a better shot, pushes past mid-on for another four.

England Captain Ben Stokes picked a wicket off his first ball in eight months during the fifth Test between India and England in Dharamsala on Friday.

- Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill continue to play freely on a pitch that offered not-so-much movement. Both batters reached their centuries. 

- Ben Stokes bowls for the first time in eight months and takes a wicket on the very first ball - of Rohit. Anderson, in the next over, removed Gill to move to 699 wickets in Tests. 

- Devdutt Padikkal starts well and gets a fifty on debut. Sarfaraz Khan too scores a half-century. 

- England, through Shoaib Bashir, gets back into the game with quick wickets. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah survived the last one hour of the day and also added 45 runs for the ninth wicket. 

- India starts day three with a lead of 255 runs over England. 

A couple of minutes after Shubman Gill raced to his fourth century in Test cricket on Friday morning, his father Lakhwinder Singh Gill received a text message from Karsan Ghavri. The former India international, who played a key role in mentoring Gill in his formative years, was elated to see his ward come a long way.

It was a proud moment for Lakhwinder as well. Watching the proceedings from the hospitality box at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, he applauded as Gill took his cap off, swung the bat and celebrated the moment.

True to his reputation, the youngster brought up his ton in style. He put his front leg across for a slog-sweep and smacked it over the unmanned region - a shot that Lakhwinder would ideally not approve of. “But he has been playing this shot for quite a while now,” Lakhwinder said with a smile.

As Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill walked out in the middle on a sunny Friday morning, their intentions were clear - allow none of the England bowlers to settle.

After a quiet first over, Rohit began his onslaught with a six and a boundary off Shoaib Bashir, and Gill joined in with some back foot strokes. Time and again, as the England spinners faltered in length, Gill danced down the track for some big hits. 

He lofted Bashir over the long-off for a six and brought up his 4000 first-class runs, and a while later, the young spinner was again at the receiving end as Gill walloped him over the deep mid-wicket amid huge cheers from the crowd. He also looked comfortable against Mark Wood and effortlessly hit him for four boundaries between the 38th and the 42nd over.
