Andy Burnham hopes a refurbished Old Trafford can take FA Cup semi-finals away from Wembley and even host England fixtures again.

Manchester United have set up a task force for the regeneration of the stadium with hopes of turning the ground into the 'Wembley Of The North', according to Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Burnham, the Mayor Of Greater Manchester, is among the names on that task force along with chair of the organising committee for the 2012 London Olympics, Lord Sebastian Coe and club legend Gary Neville.

As well as giving United a state-of-the-art home for what they hope will be an exciting new era, Burnham says that he hopes the stadium can be used for the greater good of English football and put a stop to the concentration of big games in London.

Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT's Gameday Exclusive, Burnham said: “I do think we should have an FA Cup semi-final, for instance, played around the country again.

“That my was upbringing. I’ve never liked the idea of semi-finals at Wembley – why shouldn’t they be here?
