In honor of International Women’s Day 2024, Fiji Airways has unveiled an extensive initiative aimed at fostering a more inclusive environment for women.
The national airline has pledged to enact an Inclusion Action Plan aimed at identifying and nurturing women for advancement into leadership positions within the company.
Key initiatives include:
- Providing preferential treatment to women in all future recruitment and promotion processes, contingent upon meeting minimum competency criteria for the respective roles.
- Mandating the inclusion of one or more women on all recruitment and promotion panels moving forward.
- Setting ambitious diversity and women’s representation targets for leadership positions to be achieved by the end of 2026, including:
- Ensuring at least 40% of Chiefs are women.
- Attaining a 50% representation of women among Executive Managers.
- Achieving a 50% representation of women among Senior Managers.
- Increasing the ratio of female Managers from 40% to 50%.
- To support these objectives, Fiji Airways will select 20 promising women and 5 men to undergo an intensive 2 to 3-year Systemic Leadership Development program.
The selection process for the final 20 participants will involve rigorous screening, including psychometric tests and in-depth professional assessments such as Enneagram evaluations. Once chosen, the 3-year program will cover four core domains of leadership:
- Self-Mastery:
- Professional Enneagram assessment and development.
- Mindful leadership training and Vertical Growth Program by Michael Bunting.
- Biweekly one-on-one coaching sessions.
- Leadership Skills:
- Participation in various courses on feedback, planning, and remaining future-oriented.
- Extensive mentoring opportunities.
- Rotation across different departments.
- Relationship Mastery:
- Learning coaching techniques.
- Mastering communication skills.
- Systemic Integration:
- Embracing diverse perspectives.
- Developing strategic skills.
Airline Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr Andre Viljoen says the National Airline thrives because of the diverse talents, perspectives, and dedication of its women employees.
“Their strength, resilience, and innovation inspire us all. I want all my female colleagues to know that their talents, ideas, and leadership are not just valued—they are essential.
Women bring a unique perspective to the organization, and in many instances they have been responsible for ground breaking innovations which have elevated Fiji Airways to where it is today.”
