Novelist and journalist Simon Bourke on anxiety, sex scenes and writing an ode to the lonely men of Ireland

Following the release of his second novel A Place Without Pain, the Kilkenny native reflects on his journey to this point as well as fears for the future of writing

The path that Simon Bourke has taken to novelist and journalist is one less travelled. A native of Piltown, Co Kilkenny, when he emerged fresh-faced from the VocationalCollege in Carrick on Súir he didn't have much direction.

He listed through his twenties, battled some demons and emerged from the other side a distinguished writer – a journalist who has just released his second novel A Place Without Pain.
