The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping
The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping Netflix, streaming now Katherine Kubler is a filmmaker. When she was a teenager, her dad rang her and said he was on his way to collect her. Instead, two people arrived and put her in handcuffs. They had been hired by her parents and were there to forcibly take her to her new school — The Academy at Ivy Ridge. Along the lines of Hell Camp: Teen Nightmare, this is yet another unnerving first-hand account exposing the “troubled teen” industry in the US. Titled The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping, it outlines the harrowing ordeal experienced by the teens sent there by their parents for “behaviour modification” treatment, which went far beyond the “no talking, no smiling, and no going outside” rule. The Academy claimed to use therapy and recreational activities to help kids to change. Instead, those who went there suffered mental and physical abuse in a program that operated like a cult. Here, Katherine and fellow former students tell their stories.
