Formula 1 returns to Jeddah for the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix this week as Max Verstappen continues to lead the charge for the title.

The defending three-champion continued his 2023 dominance by comfortably winning this season's F1 opener in Bahrain last weekend.

Bahrain was also the site of this year's pre-season testing, with Saudi Arabia's street race offering teams their first opportunity to try their new cars out in different conditions to bring the fight to Red Bull.

But as was the case last week, every single session has been moved forward a day with this unique trend ending on round three.

Why is the Saudi Arabia GP on a Saturday?

Saudi Arabia has previously held each race on a Sunday as is the sport's custom since its arrival on the grid in 2021.

However, due to Ramadan, the 2024 race will be on Saturday night.

The Islamic holy month of Ramadan, a key religious holiday for the Muslim community, starts on Sunday, March 10.

As the Saudi Arabian GP is one of only five-night races on the F1 calendar, organisers were forced to move up the race timeline.

In turn, that has had a knock-on effect on both motorsport and boxing, with Bahrain also being held last Saturday to allow the allotted seven-day gap between events.

In addition, Anthony Joshua will take on former UFC superstar Francis Ngannou in the Gulf Kingdom the night before to avoid a clash.
