On Today with Claire Byrne (RTÉ1, weekdays, 10am) there was Alex Cleland, who runs shops in Laois and Tipperary, using words like “crazy”, and “very frustrating” to describe the first month of the magic machines. Gus O’Hara, president of the Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association, called it “tough”, and “an interesting four weeks” – interesting, but not in a good way.
The stage was set for Ciaran Foley, CEO of Re-turn, to do whatever he does. Interestingly this was not a debate with the previous speakers, just the CEO talking about “a very solid start”. It had not been “crazy”, or “very frustrating”, or “tough”, as the men in the shops had found it; for Ciaran Foley it had been “very solid”.
