Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.26%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Thursday.

Shares of Bajaj Auto Ltd.(up 3.18 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd.(up 2.13 per cent), Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd.(up 0.45 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(up 0.38 per cent) and Ashok Leyland Ltd.(up 0.21 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(down 3.71 per cent), Bosch Ltd.(down 2.03 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(down 1.58 per cent), Tube Investments of India Ltd.(down 1.26 per cent) and MRF Ltd.(down 1.23 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.26 per cent down at 21126.8.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 19.5 points at 22493.55, while the BSE Sensex stood up 33.4 points at 74119.39.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 30 ended in the green, while 20 closed in the red.

Shares of Infibeam Avenues, Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Tata Steel and Tata Power were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Chemfab Alkalis, Rallis India, Tata Chemicals, Tata Power and Kalpataru Power hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Indiabulls Intgrtd, Sanco Industries, Compuage Infocom, Vaxtex Cotfab and Stampede Cap(DVR)hit their fresh 52-week lows.
