Stock market update: Sugar stocks down as market rises

NEW DELHI: Sugar shares closed higher in the Wednesday's session.

Avadh Sugar & Energy Ltd.(up 0.62%) and Ponni Sugars(Erode)Ltd.(up 0.46%) stood among the top gainers.

Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Ltd.(down 4.72%), Rajshree Sugars & Chemicals Ltd.(down 4.37%), KM Sugar Mills Ltd.(down 3.47%), DCM Shriram Industries Ltd.(down 3.43%), Simbhaoli Sugars Ltd.(down 3.16%), Kothari Sugars & Chemicals Ltd.(down 3.05%), Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd.(down 2.91%), EID Parry(India)Ltd.(down 2.61%), Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Ltd.(down 2.57%) and Mawana Sugars Ltd.(down 2.50%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 117.75 points up at 22474.05, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed up 408.86 points at 74085.99.

Bajaj Auto Ltd.(up 3.05%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.(up 2.57%), Axis Bank Ltd.(up 2.2%), Bharti Airtel Ltd.(up 2.13%), SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd.(up 1.96%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.(up 1.9%), Divi's Laboratories Ltd.(up 1.73%), Tata Consumer Products Ltd.(up 1.63%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(up 1.62%) and Titan Company Ltd.(up 1.6%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Adani Enterprises Ltd.(down 2.31%), UltraTech Cement Ltd.(down 2.01%), NTPC Ltd.(down 1.76%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.(down 1.24%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.(down 1.05%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd.(down 1.01%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 0.89%), JSW Steel Ltd.(down 0.79%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.(down 0.45%) and Tata Motors Ltd.(down 0.42%) closed in the red.
