Stock market update: Nifty Pharma index advances 0.64%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Pharma index closed on a positive note on Wednesday.

Shares of Natco Pharma Ltd.(up 3.81 per cent), Alkem Laboratories Ltd.(up 2.2 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.(up 1.9 per cent), Divi's Laboratories Ltd.(up 1.73 per cent) and Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd.(up 1.1 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd.(down 2.73 per cent), Laurus Labs Ltd.(down 2.27 per cent), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd.(down 2.19 per cent), Biocon Ltd.(down 1.95 per cent) and Pfizer Ltd.(down 1.89 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.64 per cent up at 19140.0.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 117.75 points at 22474.05, while the BSE Sensex stood up 408.86 points at 74085.99.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 32 ended in the green, while 18 closed in the red.

Shares of Motherson Sumi, Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, NHPC and Zomato were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Tata Chemicals, Welspun Invst, Dollar Industries, Cambridge Tech and Laxmi Goldorna House hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while IIFL Finance, Lords Chloro, Agro Tech Foods, Credo Brands Marketi and GPT Healthcare hit their fresh 52-week lows.
