TRAIL HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. A steeper, more challenging hike on our beautiful Cottage Park trail to one of Western Ridge’s overlooks. This is an out-and-back hike that will be approximately 3.3 miles round-trip. Bring plenty of water, snacks, waterproof shoes, and appropriate clothing for the weather. POETRY READING: On Wednesday, March 6 , Caffè Lena will present a poetry reading by Jay Rogoff. An open mic poetry reading will follow. TREE TAPPING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. A homeschool popup event. Join an educator in the nature center for a quick history of making maple syrup, the process from beginning to end, and if you are able, come on a short walk to tap a tree! IRISH LIBRARY PROGRAM: Celebrate a bit of Irish culture at the Galway Public Library on March 7 at 6:30 pm. Master Martial Arts instructors John Borter and Trish Chiovari will demonstrate the Irish Martial Art of “Bataireacht,” or Shillelagh Fighting, to library guests. John and Trish will show you the moves and tell you why this art was such an integral part of life in Ireland long ago. They’ll even get some of you into the act! The rich history and story of the blackthorn, the trees shillelaghs are traditionally made from, will be told by Christopher Shaw, who will also sing a few Irish songs and bend your ear with a story or two. ARTIST JAM: The second Friday of each month from 4-6 pm at the Galway Public Library, 2112 East St, Galway. Artist Jam is a social event for teen and adult artists in the community to get together and enjoy a relaxing workspace. Whether you’re looking to meet fellow creators or need an excuse to finish your latest project, this is the place for you! Please bring your own art supplies and a project to do. All forms of artistic media are welcome. This is a no-judgment zone, so no prior artistic experience is required to participate. At times, an art teacher will be in attendance to give guidance, if desired. Registration is requested, but not required, at 518-882-6385.

FISH FRY: Saratoga Knights of Columbus Council # 246 will once again be hosting Fish Fry Fridays throughout Lent. The first will be February 24, then each Friday until March 29 from 5-7. Orders can be made each Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday from noon until 3:00 p.m. by calling 518 -584-8547. The menu will include fried or baked fish, clam strips, clam chowder, each will include french fries and coleslaw. This is a take-out or eat in our lounge event.
WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. “EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION WITH ALZHEIMER’S”: At the Saratoga Senior Center, 290 West Ave. Public welcome. 12:45 pm. Join the Alzheimer’s Association to explore how communication changes when someone is living with Alzheimer’s. Learn how to interpret verbal and behavioral communication and identify strategies to connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.

PUP PAWTY: Join Impressions of Saratoga in celebrating the Impressions Pups’ Annual Birthday Pawty on Saturday, March 9 from 11 am to 2 pm. Impressions has been dog friendly since its inception and you can usually find at least one of the four Impressions Pups in the office on any given day. Each March we celebrate Cookie, Smitty, Pupa, and Thatcher’s birthdays with treats and fun for all. Cookie will be turning twelve, Smitty and Pupa just turned ten, and Thatcher is the baby of the bunch at four. This year marks the tenth year of the Impressions Pups’ Pawty and it is always a fun time! The day is filled with celebrations and is a dog friendly event. Dogs must be well behaved, good with other dogs and must be leashed at all times. There are usually a fair number of dogs and it is important for everyone to feel safe and comfortable. If your dog would rather stay home, you are welcome to stop in and grab a Pawty Pick Up Pack and bring the fun home to celebrate where your dog is more comfortable. This year’s birthday bash will be “BONE Appetite themed”! We will be serving the pups InstaCakes for each pup to try, a fun new product that just hit the shelves. Each InstaCake Kit comes with everything you need to have a Pawty at home, including a pup cake that only takes a few minutes to make. Plus IdlePaws, a small natural pet treat company out of Syracuse, will be serving up some delicious samples of their tasty yet healthy snacks! The InstaCake Kits and IdlePaws Pet Treats will also be available for purchase. There will be Pup Pawty activities, treat tastings, special deals on Dog products, coloring contest and a raffle for a great prize basket for one lucky pup and their person! We will be sure to have some human treats as well! We will be collecting donations for our Estherville Animal Shelter; gladly accepting new or gently used toys, collars, leashes, beds, blankets, or towels. DARK SKY GAMES: At Moreau Lake State Park, 7pm. Dark Sky games are a family friendly, fun way to enjoy the beach in a whole new way! Taking advantage of the dark skies of the new moon we’ll play Bat and Moth, test our ability to see colors and more. If it’s clear, the one and only Larry the Astronomer will open up our observatory so we can marvel at the wonders of

BARBIE FORUM: To commemorate the 65th birthday of the controversial doll, the League of Women Voters is holding a forum titled, “Baffling Barbie: Feminist Friend or Foe?” on Saturday, March 9 from 10am to noon at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library. The public is invited to attend.
Headlining the event will be Rosemary Armao, an investigative reporter, podcaster, professor at UAlbany, and previously on WAMC’s “Round Table and Media Project.” Panelists representing four generations of women will share their perceptions of how Barbie influenced their views of what it means to be a woman in American culture and if the “Barbie” movie changed their perceptions of the doll’s impact. Clips from the “Barbie” movie will be shown. There will also be a display of Barbie dolls by a long-time area collector, Myla Kramer. No registration is required for this free event. Kens welcome! THEATER VOLUNTEER OPEN HOUSE: On Saturday, March 9th Home Made Theater will hold an open house for both potential and existing volunteers. The open house will be held from 10:00am-12:00pm at Home Made Theater’s Wilton Mall headquarters, which is located in the wing nearest the Saratoga Hospital offices. Most of the work of producing live theater at Home Made Theater is done by volunteers. New members of the team are always welcome and appreciated. Volunteers work in almost every aspect of production and work side by side with theater professionals. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn.

TRAIL STEWARD MEETING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. A meeting to introduce the trail steward program to newcomers. The duties of a trail steward include walking the trails of Moreau Lake State Park to identify and report maintenance needs, light trail maintenance including cutting back branches with supplied hand saws and loppers and hanging trail signs when necessary. This meeting will provide crucial information on what to look for on the trails. Established trail stewards are welcome to come, but it is not mandatory. This meeting is free. EAGLE WATCH: At Moreau Lake State Park, 8:30am. Join a Park Educator on a convoy-style journey along the Hudson River to try to spot our local Bald Eagles. We will be getting in and out of vehicles at a few locations and, with a little luck, viewing the eagles through binoculars and a scope so make sure to bring your hat and gloves! CHURCH DINNER: The Hebron United Presbyterian Church is offering our eighth Free Community Dinner, Tuesday, March 12th. The East Hebron church facility is at 6559 State Route 22. Come alone, bring a friend, get the family, bring the kids. We have a delicious sit-down dinner and dessert between 4:00 and 6:00 pm. Some dishes are plant-based and others include meat. Fresh veggies, g-f cornbread, desserts, fresh fruit, and apple cider are on the menu. Meet your rural neighbors and learn about programs at our church and other community programs in the area. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing family emergency plans and stocking supplies. HISTORIAN TEA TALK: Following the tremendous success of last year’s series, and after many requests for a repeat, the Saratoga County History Center is delighted to host another series of Historian Tea Talks, with new speakers and topics, in the Long Room at Brookside Museum. WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. PYSANKY CLASS: Artist Chris Levy will return to the Slate Valley museum to instruct a workshop on the art of Pysanky egg decorating. The program will be offered on Saturday, March 16 from 12-3pm. Pysanky, the ancient art of egg decorating, is a part of cultures throughout Eastern Europe and is most widely associated with Ukraine. These traditional, hand-crafted Easter eggs are created through a process of drawing, or writing, patterns with hot wax onto eggs and dipping them into dyes to create a series of unique, layered designs. The price to participate in the workshop is $40 per person. All ages are welcome to participate, though anyone under the age of 12 would require an adult to attend as well to provide assistance as needed. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Get a glimpse into the fascinating lives of freshwater turtles and their unique history and anatomy. Meet ambassador turtles from the Adirondacks and beyond, and find out why turtles are disappearing and what we can do to make sure we have turtles to love for generations to come. Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner-rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings and it is approximately a 2-hour program. A small mat is beneficial to ensure a dry seat. This program is limited to those age 14 and up. Pay $5 per person (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. HISTORY CENTER PRESENTATION: The Saratoga County History Center (SCHC) at Brookside Museum announces a virtual presentation by Theodore Corbett on “The Rise and Fall of Ballston Spa as Resort”. This will be the 24rd presentation in the Center’s popular speaker series “Experts Next Door” and will take place at 7pm on Thursday, March 21st through Zoom. After the Revolutionary War, the new nation’s earliest resorts were spas, following the tradition of those in England. Ballston Spa was one of the earliest and soon eclipsed its rivals in terms of springs, hotels and amenities. New York City’s Nicholas Low was the most enterprising of the Spa’s developers. By the 1830s, however, Saratoga Springs’ resort had surpassed Ballston Spa, which continued, using its water power and railroad to establish the mills of the Industrial Revolution. The event is open to the public. It is free for SCHC members, and $5 for non-members. Pre-registration is required through the website www.brooksidemuseum.org .

MOONLIGHT HIKE: Are you interested in traversing the trails of Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park at night? View nature in a new light, or lack thereof, as you walk the trails under the full moon. An unforgettable experience for all ages! The February Moonlight Hike is scheduled for February 24 at 5:30 pm. The walk will take place on the trails of Camp Saratoga North on Scout Road in the Town of Wilton. If there is snow, the program will take place on snowshoes. Free snowshoe rentals will be available 15 minutes prior to the program provided by a grant from the Common Roots Foundation. If there is no snow, the program will be a trail walk. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. FULL MOON HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 7pm. Join a Park Educator on a beginner hike around Moreau Lake. If the clouds cooperate, we’ll get to enjoy the splendor of the moon rising above the mountains! This hike is family friendly and well-behaved dogs on a 6 foot or shorter leash are welcome. Dress for the weather and bring micro-spikes or snowshoes; there are limited numbers of micro-spikes to borrow and snowshoes to rent if weather-appropriate- let us know if you need either when you sign up. FOREST BATHING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner-rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings and it is approximately a 2-hour program. FISH FRY: Saratoga Knights of Columbus Council # 246 will once again be hosting Fish Fry Fridays throughout Lent. The first will be February 24, then each Friday until March 29 from 5-7. WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. TROUT UNLIMITED BANQUET: The Adirondack Chapter of Trout Unlimited announces the return of the annual Conservation Banquet on April 6. This year’s Banquet takes place at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks #161 Banquet Hall, 1 Elks Lane off Route 9 in Saratoga Springs from 5 to 9pm. Individual tickets are $55, and tables of 8 are available. The Banquet is a major source of funding supporting the Chapter’s conservation efforts, including the Home Rivers Initiative for the Battenkill and its tributaries; restoration projects for the Ausable River Watershed, Kayaderosserass Creek, Camden Creek, Saranac River, and Lake George tributaries; and educational programming, like Trout in the Classroom. ROAD RALLY: Friends of the Mohawk Towpath Byway, Mohawk-Hudson Region Sports Car Club of America is hosting a road rally on April 14. Mohawk Towpath Byway Road Rally is a 60+/- mile game, tour, adventure (GTA) along the Mohawk and Hudson Valleys showcasing the importance the Erie and Champlain Canals routes played in the area’s history. Commemorating the history, heritage, and culture of the canals, the rally demonstrates the connectivity between recreation areas and communities and between waterways and land trails. The rally is planned and held under the supervision of the Mohawk-Hudson Region Sports Car Club of America. Registration opens at 9am, Driver/ Navigator meeting at 9:50am, first car off at 10:05am. Event has a three hour time limit followed by a catered lunch and awards ceremony in the barn at the Mabee Farm. Open to individuals and families of all ages, minimum entry must include a driver and a navigator. Each team will need the following: entry fee of $25, camera with digital display, internet access, and a GPS unit, or a smartphone or tablet with these capabilities.
