Addressing the audience on the topic Media, Telecom, and Bandwidth: Navigating the Crossroads of Regulation and Consumer Welfare,” Dwivedi highlighted the exponential growth in data consumption and the consequent evolution of content consumption avenues. With the media and entertainment sector projected to reach Rs 2.8 trillion, Dwivedi stressed the necessity for a regulatory framework that caters to diverse consumer profiles while uplifting regulatory standards.
He underscored the impact of digitalization on television and the emergence of new video devices, which have reshaped the broadcast landscape. Dwivedi noted the challenge posed to traditional broadcasters by OTT services and emphasized the importance of harmonizing media and telecom infrastructures for seamless content consumption.
Furthermore, Dwivedi discussed the convergence of regulatory frameworks, citing international examples where regulatory bodies oversee both telecom and broadcast media. He advocated for a similar approach in India, tailored to address the nation’s unique challenges and consumer profiles.
