Hit and run on Highway 6 in Avon leaves one dead
Avon police treating the incident as vehicular homicide

The Avon Police Department is treating an incident on Tuesday night on U.S. Highway 6 west of Stonebridge Drive as a hit-and-run fatality.
Highway 6 between Avon Road and Stonebridge Drive is currently closed as police officers, detectives and crime scene personnel investigate. There is no timetable for reopening. Alternative routes include Hurd Lane and East Beaver Creek Blvd to Post Blvd.
The Vail Public Safety Communications Center received a call from a passing motorist that a male was lying on the side of Highway 6 on Tuesday night. A fire engine responding from another call was on the scene within moments, and emergency workers attempted to resuscitate the individual, but he was declared dead at the scene.
Avon officers are being assisted by the Colorado State Patrol. Those with any information regarding this incident should call (970) 479-2201 and ask for an Avon police officer.
