ICC Test rankings: Yashasvi Jaiswal climbs to top 10 following record-breaking series

India youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal has moved up two spots in the Test batting rankings to make his debut appearance in the top 10. Jaiswal’s rise is a result of his outstanding performance in the Test matchup with England.
Jaiswal has scored 655 runs in four Test matches so far in the series, showing off his excellent form. In a Test series against England, Jaiswal has already tied the all-time record for runs scored by Virat Kohli. In the Dharamsala Test match, he is set to surpass the legendary batter.
In the current series against England, Jaiswal has been on a tear. He opened with a fierce 80 runs in Hyderabad. India’s win in Vizag was made possible by the opener’s 209, and he added another double century in Rajkot to give the home team the advantage in the series.
With this achievement, Jaiswal became the third Indian batsman to score consecutive double hundreds in Test cricket, behind Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli.
Earlier to the Rajkot Test match, the batter’s position in the Test rankings was 29th. Following his match-winning double hundred, Jaiswal shot up to rank 15, making the largest leap in recent memory. Following the third Test’s end, Jaiswal’s ranking increased by three spots, placing him in 12th place.
The batter made important contributions of 73 and 37 in the Test match, but he did not make a century in the fourth Test match in Ranchi. So far in the series, Jaiswal has not failed to register at least one fifty in any Test.
In the Test format, Jaiswal made his maiden appearance in the top 10 list after receiving another promotion, this time of two spots. As of right moment, the young player is the second Indian to be ranked among the top 10 Test batters. He joined Virat Kohli, who has remained at the eighth position.

Ashwin says journey to 100 Tests has been special
The fifth and the last match of the series is schedule to take place at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday.

Ravichandran Ashwin will become the 14th Indian player to appear in 100 Test matches after he steps out at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala for the fifth series between India and England. This is also the last match of the series, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
During a recent interview, R Ashwin revealed that for him, the journey is more important than the final destination, despite the fact that playing 100 Test matches is a fantastic accomplishment.
At the pre-match news conference, Ashwin said its a big occasion, from the look and sound of it. The journey has been special, more so than the destination. Additionally, Ravichandran Ashwin said that his family values the 100 Tests he has played.
Ashwin said the 100th Test matters a lot to him, but it matters more to his father, mother, wife, and kids. He said, his kids are more excited about the Test. Families go through a lot during a player’s journey. His father still answers 40 calls on what his son did during a game, Ashwin said.
When asked about playing in the chilly Dharamsala weather, he responded that he had played under-19 cricket for two months 21 years ago. It will take some time for fingers to acclimate as the weather is really cold, he added.
Meanwhile, Ashwin recently became the second Indian bowler to ever surpass 500 wickets in a Test match. He reached this milestone in Rajkot while playing against England in the third match of the series.
India won the fourth test by five wickets, giving England an unbeatable 3-1 lead. In Hyderabad, England won the first test by a margin of 28 runs. In response, India won both the second and third tests, scoring 106 and 434 runs, respectively, in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot.

IPL 2024: Pat Cummins named Sunrisers Hyderabad captain
Cummins replaces Aiden Markram as the skipper of the franchise.

Pat Cummins will be the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s new captain starting in the 2024 IPL season, the team has officially confirmed.
Aiden Markram will be replaced at SRH by Cummins, who guided Australia to the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup in 2023.
During the IPL 2024 auction, the Australian pacer went for 20.5 crore rupees, making him the second most expensive player in the tournament’s history.
The news was made just one day after it was reported that Cummins was expected to take Markram’s spot as the team’s captain for the next campaign.
During a interview, Cummins said, India is a second home to him. They are here for a very long time. IPL you’ve got your home teams, he added. It feels genuinely that he has a large following here. Or cricket supporters who have at least cheered you on, or, you know, many people who approach him and said, Oh, he is from Kolkata or they support KKR. Thus, it’s comforting to know that not everyone is against you, Cummins added.
In his first match as captain at the historic Eden Gardens, Cummins will be back in familiar surroundings as he takes against his former team, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Cummins will play in the IPL for the eighth time in 2024. He was formerly a member of the KKR team, which paid an astounding 15.50 crores to acquire him—the highest price paid at the 2020 Indian Premier League auction. Cummins, while smashing the fastest fifty-run in IPL history at the time with 14 balls, did not, however, measure up to the expectations associated with the price tag, particularly with the ball. In 2022, he made his final IPL appearance, appearing in five matches, taking seven wickets and only managing 63 runs.
The match is scheduled for March 23, the first double header of the 2023 season.
Meanwhile, SRH squad includes Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Sanvir Singh, Heinrich Klaasen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Agarwal, T. Natarajan, Anmolpreet Singh, Mayank Markande, Upendra Singh Yadav, Umran Malik, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Shahbaz Ahmed, Travis Head, Wanindu Hasaranga, Pat Cummins, Jaydev Unadkat, Akash Singh, Jhathavedh Subramanyan.
