The Colorado River District’s 2024 State of the River event series will begin later this month and continue through May, with ten local events spread across the Gunnison, Colorado and Yampa-White River basins.
The event for the Lower Yampa River will be held on April 2 at the Moffat County Fairgrounds, with the Upper Yampa River event taking place the following day, April 3, at the Steamboat Springs Community Center.
The free, public meetings will be open to western slope residents interested in learning more about river forecasts, local water projects and western water issues.
Each meeting will include a light dinner. Unless otherwise noted, dinner and networking will begin at 6 p.m. with the speaker program starting at 6:30 p.m.
Registration is required. To register, visit coloradoriverdistrict.org.
“The State of the River meetings are a spring tradition in Western Colorado,” said River District Deputy Director of Public Relations, Lindsay DeFrates.
“The Colorado River District was established to represent the interests West Slope water users, and so we try to make these meetings as accessible as possible to anyone interested in learning more about the important water issues facing their community.”
The River District works with a variety of partner organizations across the West Slope to host these events.
While each night’s programming will vary slightly, all State of the River meetings will offer attendees the opportunity to learn more about local water projects and priorities, seasonal river and stream flow forecasts, Colorado River and interstate issues, and how the River District is working to protect Colorado’s most precious resource.
Additional events have also been scheduled for other regional waterways, including a March 26 event in Meeker for the White River, April 1 event in Grand Junction for the Colorado River and May 7 event in Rifle for the Middle Colorado River.
The full list of events can be found at coloradoriverdistrict.org. Questions can be directed to Lindsay DeFrates at (970)456-8973.
