Election Day Preview
There are many races on the Democratic side and the Republican side to closely watch.
First, on the Democratic side, Sheila Jackson Lee hopes to keep her 18th congressional district seat against challenger Amanda Edwards.
Jackson Lee is coming off a loss in December in the race for Houston mayor. Edwards is a former Jackson Lee intern hoping to unseat the longtime congresswoman.
Another race being closely watched is the race for Harris County district attorney. Kim Ogg is fighting for her political life against Sean Teare.
Ogg was admonished by Harris County Democrats last year and recent polling shows Teare with a substantial lead of support heading into the final day of voting.
On the GOP side, we’ll monitor races like the one in Liberty where incumbent Ernest Bailes aims to hold off a challenge against Janis Holt, who has Gov. Gregg Abbott’s backing. Other races like that are part of Abbott’s effort to oust Republican representatives who rejected his school voucher plan.
Remember, this is the first time there’s a joint primary so Democrats and Republicans will be using the same sites and same machines.
