Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Messenger Experience Major Outage

Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Threads went dark Tuesday morning, leaving users unable to load and access the apps.

The tracking website Down Detector showed outages on Instagram, Facebook and Messenger on Tuesday with worldwide outages identified. Some users also experienced issues logging in to their Meta Quest headsets.

Meta initially acknowledged the issue on its status page with a message timestamped 10:17AM ET: “We are aware of an issue impacting Facebook Login. Our engineering teams are actively looking to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Meta communications head Andy Stone confirmed the down sites on X, writing that the company is “aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now."

The company’s stock took a slight tumble in early hour trading, dropping more than $8 to about $490 per share.

Meta platform users highlighted the fact that the company used X to let users know Facebook and other apps were down.

Some thought it was suspicious that the outage happened on Super Tuesday, a day in the United States when the largest amount of states hold primary elections.

Reports suggests that multiple countries have been affected for all three platforms. NetBlocks, a monitoring site, reported that the platforms were experiencing outages related to login sessions in multiple countries; and that the incident is not related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering.
