WATERBURY – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Magda Iris Lugo, who passed away on March 1, 2024, at the age of 68.
Born on March 26, 1955 in Puerto Rico, she grew up in Ponce and later moved to the United States where she resided in Waterbury for the remainder of her life. She was known for her warmth, compassion, and unwavering love for both her family and the community around her. She touched the lives of all who knew her with her kindness and generosity.
She was passionate about cooking and baking, and her dishes were always the highlight of every family gathering. While cooking always put a smile on her face, she lit up others’ faces every time they tasted something she had made. Especially the times when she baked wedding cakes for both family and community events.
And when she wasn’t in the kitchen, she was usually crocheting or making crafts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which they cherished more than anything.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Magda was also a dedicated foster parent for more than 20 years. She was not only a mother to her own children, but a mother figure to all. Her kind-hearted nature always made it impossible for her not to put others’ needs before hers.
Not only did she hold much love for her family, but extended that love to children outside of the immediate family. Above all, Magda will be remembered for her unconditional love, her infectious laughter, and the warmth of her embrace. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Magda was a devoted wife to Americo Galarza Sr. She is survived by her children Americo Galarza Jr., Wilbert Galarza, Milmaglyn Morales, Anthony Fernandez, and Manuel Llano; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, March 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bergin Funeral Home, 290 E. Main St., Waterbury. Burial will be private.
