Gardaí seize €62k cash and €20k worth of cannabis and magic mushrooms in Midlands raids


A man in his 30s has been arrested after gardaí seized €62,000 in cash and a quantity of drugs after stopping a car in the Midlands yesterday.
Gardaí in Mullingar seized the money, along with approximately €20,000 worth of suspected cannabis herb, during the search operation yesterday afternoon.

The haul was discovered after officers stopped a car on the Dublin Road in Mullingar, Co Westmeath at around 5.30pm.
Following a search of the vehicle, €62,000 in cash was found and seized by gardaí.
One man, aged in his 30s, was arrested and detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Westmeath.
During follow-up searches at two properties in Co Westmeath yesterday evening, approximately €20,000 of suspected cannabis was seized as well as quantities of suspected cocaine and 'magic' mushrooms.

A garda spokesman said a second man was arrested after the follow up searches.
He said: “A second man, (aged in his 20s) was arrested as part of this investigation and remains detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in County Westmeath.
“The male (aged in his 30s) has since been charged and is due to appear before Longford District Court this morning, Tuesday 5th March 2024, at 10.30am.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
