Knight: Gratitude for Glenwood Council

The Glenwood Springs City Council understood the urgency of the crisis occurring in Gaza. I am grateful it voted to support a ceasefire and not to wait another month to see where the world is at. Innocent children die in Gaza every week; acting fast is essential for the preservation of innocent lives.

If a city council can help give voice, should it not? These are extraordinary times. Advocating for a ceasefire opposes the level of brutality and violence my federal government is supporting. Data for Progress found 61% of Americans favored a ceasefire in December. Twenty nine thousand Palestinians have been killed since October.

Glenwood’s problems are that of the country. Our tax dollars are going to support horrible atrocities in Gaza. Those billions of dollars could go a long way towards our housing, mental health, and addiction crisis here.

Supporting a ceasefire is something we should be proud of. Glenwood City Council is acting on the right side of history. I hope other city councils will follow.
