Arkansas is one of 15 states holding primary elections today in what’s surely one of the least super Super Tuesdays in recent memory, with two presidential candidates both disliked by a majority of the American electorate yet facing no credible primary challengers. Arkansans won’t even get the pleasure of voting for (or against) former Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who wisely dropped out of the GOP presidential primary in January. But there are plenty of important races down the ballot.
Arkansas holds nonpartisan judicial elections at the same time as its primaries, and two races for open seats on the Supreme Court are probably the state’s most consequential contests today. There are also various circuit court and district court races, and one race for the state Court of Appeals.
Here’s Max Brantley and Matt Campbell’s take on the judicial races in Pulaski County. For other judicial contests, check out this guide from AR Votes.
Freelance reporter Jacob Kauffman rounded up the most notable Central Arkansas legislative primaries for us last week, and the Arkansas Advocate’s Tess Vrbin took a look at the issues at play in GOP races statewide. For other state and local races, AR Votes again has a good, readable guide.
Remember: Because Arkansas has open primaries, you can vote in either the Republican or the Democratic contest (not both).
