EAGLE WATCH: At Moreau Lake State Park, 8:30am. Join a Park Educator on a convoy-style journey along the Hudson River to try to spot our local Bald Eagles. We will be getting in and out of vehicles at a few locations and, with a little luck, viewing the eagles through binoculars and a scope so make sure to bring your hat and gloves! If you have binoculars bring them, we do have a couple of pairs to pass around as well. $5 program fee payable at the office upon your arrival (cash or check). “LEAVE NO TRACE” GAMES: At Moreau Lake State Park, 1pm. Looking for something fun on this day off of school? Leave No Trace teaches us the 7 principles of responsible outdoor recreation. PRESERVATION SOCIETY MEETING: Galway Preservation Society’s monthly program. Doors open at 6:45, the program will begin at 7:00. The meeting will be held at the Galway Town Hall, 5910 Sacandaga Road, Galway. Historian and Education Director at the Schoharie Crossing Historic Site David Brooks will join the Galway Preservation Society’s March meeting to present a talk on “DeWitt’s Duel”, exploring the life of DeWitt Clinton and the politics of early America and New York State. DeWitt Clinton was governor of New York State, a US Senator and Mayor of New York City. DeWitt Clinton has been called the “Father of the Erie Canal” for his role in orchestrating the building of the Canal by some, while others called the project “Clinton’s Folly” or “Clinton’s Ditch”. David Brooks will explain how political wranglings and intrigue led to DeWitt’s Duel on the plains of Weehawken, New Jersey across the river from New York City. Our programs are always open to the public, free of charge. If you choose, annual family or household membership is available for $10 per year.

SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 474 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Meetings are held in the Council Room at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the meeting agenda at for times of Public Hearings. The Ramp Door on the Broadway entrance to the building will be open for public access at 6:30 p.m. and earlier for special schedules. SEEDS AND COMPOSTING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Come on down to the Nature Center where we will be starting vegetable and flower seeds as well as discussing the why’s and how’s of composting. POTTER POINT HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 1pm. A fun little walk along the Hudson River on a lesser-known parcel of land will surely impress anyone who enjoys a little walk off trail. The hike will have some rolling hills but there are also a few spots where we will have some tricky footing or wet sloppy walking. Pleases dress accordingly for the weather and wear

WHOLENESS CLASSES: Presented by “New Thought New York.” 7 Tuesdays beginning January 23. During this 7-week class, students will explore the interrelationship between Spirit, Mind, and Body. This class is based on the principles of New Thought as well as current research in the scientific fields of medicine and quantum physics. You will also employ spiritual

TRAIL HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. A steeper, more challenging hike on our beautiful Cottage Park trail to one of Western Ridge’s overlooks. This is an out-and-back hike that will be approximately 3.3 miles round-trip. Bring plenty of water, snacks, waterproof shoes, and appropriate clothing for the weather. POETRY READING: On Wednesday, March 6 , Caffè Lena will present a poetry reading by Jay Rogoff. An open mic poetry reading will follow. Doors open for sign-ups at 6:30 pm and the readings will start at 7:00. The cost is $5 general, free for students. The featured reading will also be livestreamed. Join an educator in the nature center for a quick history of making maple syrup, the process from beginning to end, and if you are able, come on a short walk to tap a tree! We are encouraging homeschool groups to attend, but it is open to the public. Geared toward ages 6+, siblings welcome. IRISH LIBRARY PROGRAM: Celebrate a bit of Irish culture at the Galway Public Library on March 7 at 6:30 pm. Master Martial Arts instructors John Borter and Trish Chiovari will demonstrate the Irish Martial Art of “Bataireacht,” or Shillelagh Fighting, to library guests. John and Trish will show you the moves and tell you why this art was such an integral part of life in Ireland long ago. They’ll even get some of you into the act! The rich history and story of the blackthorn, the trees shillelaghs are traditionally made from, will be told by Christopher Shaw, who will also sing a few Irish songs and bend your ear with a story or two. ARTIST JAM: The second Friday of each month from 4-6 pm at the Galway Public Library, 2112 East St, Galway. Artist Jam is a social event for teen and adult artists in the community to get together and enjoy a relaxing workspace. Whether you’re looking to meet fellow creators or need an excuse to finish your latest project, this is the place for you! Please bring your own art supplies and a project to do. All forms of artistic media are welcome. This is a no-judgment zone, so no prior artistic experience is required to participate. At times, an art teacher will be in attendance to give guidance, if desired. Registration is requested, but not required, at 518-882-6385.

FISH FRY: Saratoga Knights of Columbus Council # 246 will once again be hosting Fish Fry Fridays throughout Lent. The first will be February 24, then each Friday until March 29 from 5-7. Orders can be made each Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday from noon until 3:00 p.m. by calling 518 -584-8547. The menu will include fried or baked fish, clam strips, clam chowder, each will include french fries and coleslaw. This is a take-out or eat in our lounge event.

WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. “EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION WITH ALZHEIMER’S”: At the Saratoga Senior Center, 290 West Ave. Public welcome. 12:45 pm. Join the Alzheimer’s Association to explore how communication changes when someone is living with Alzheimer’s. Learn how to interpret verbal and behavioral communication and identify strategies to connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.

DARK SKY GAMES: At Moreau Lake State Park, 7pm. Dark Sky games are a family friendly, fun way to enjoy the beach in a whole new way! If it’s clear, the one and only Larry the Astronomer will open up our observatory so we can marvel at the wonders of

BARBIE FORUM: To commemorate the 65th birthday of the controversial doll, the League of Women Voters is holding a forum titled, “Baffling Barbie: Feminist Friend or Foe?” on Saturday, March 9 from 10am to noon at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library. The public is invited to attend.
Headlining the event will be Rosemary Armao, an investigative reporter, podcaster, professor at UAlbany, and previously on WAMC’s “Round Table and Media Project.” Panelists representing four generations of women will share their perceptions of how Barbie influenced their views of what it means to be a woman in American culture and if the “Barbie” movie changed their perceptions of the doll’s impact. Clips from the “Barbie” movie will be shown. There will also be a display of Barbie dolls by a long-time area collector, Myla Kramer. No registration is required for this free event. Kens welcome! THEATER VOLUNTEER OPEN HOUSE: On Saturday, March 9th Home Made Theater will hold an open house for both potential and existing volunteers. The open house will be held from 10:00am-12:00pm at Home Made Theater’s Wilton Mall headquarters, which is located in the wing nearest the Saratoga Hospital offices. Most of the work of producing live theater at Home Made Theater is done by volunteers. New members of the team are always welcome and appreciated. Volunteers work in almost every aspect of production and work side by side with theater professionals. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn.

TRAIL STEWARD MEETING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. A meeting to introduce the trail steward program to newcomers. The duties of a trail steward include walking the trails of Moreau Lake State Park to identify and report maintenance needs, light trail maintenance including cutting back branches with supplied hand saws and loppers and hanging trail signs when necessary. This meeting will provide crucial information on what to look for on the trails. Established trail stewards are welcome to come, but it is not mandatory. This meeting is free. THEATER AUDITIONS: Home Made Theater announces open auditions for their June production of “The Secret Garden.” The auditions will be held on March 10th from 1-5pm (children and teens only), March 11th from 6-9pm (teens and adults only), and March 12th (adults only) from 6:30-9:30pm at Home Made Theater’s headquarters at the Wilton Mall (near Saratoga Hospital). Callbacks (by invitation only) will be held on March 13th. The primary cast consists of four adult men, four adult women, one boy, and one girl (approximately 10 years old). There will also be ensemble roles available. Teens will be considered for some of the adult roles as well as the ensemble. All ethnicities and gender identities are encouraged to audition. For the audition, please prepare 32 bars of a song. Singers must provide their own music in their key. No A Cappella singing please. Readings will be provided. Bring a current photo (cannot be returned), and a resume (or list of any prior theater experience). Be prepared to list all potential conflicts from the first rehearsal through closing (with the exception of Tech Week and performances, conflicts can be worked around if known about in advance). CHURCH DINNER: The Hebron United Presbyterian Church is offering our eighth Free Community Dinner, Tuesday, March 12th. The East Hebron church facility is at 6559 State Route 22. Come alone, bring a friend, get the family, bring the kids. We have a delicious sit-down dinner and dessert between 4:00 and 6:00 pm. Some dishes are plant-based and others include meat. Fresh veggies, g-f cornbread, desserts, fresh fruit, and apple cider are on the menu. Meet your rural neighbors and learn about programs at our church and other community programs in the area. DISASTER TRAINING: At the Saratoga Senior Center, 290 West Ave. Public welcome. 10am. This training course will introduce the response to a natural or man-made disaster. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing family emergency plans and stocking supplies. HISTORIAN TEA TALK: Following the tremendous success of last year’s series, and after many requests for a repeat, the Saratoga County History Center is delighted to host another series of Historian Tea Talks, with new speakers and topics, in the Long Room at Brookside Museum. Tea and cookies will be served. Space is limited, so registration is appreciated. There is a suggested donation of $5 for each talk, which may be made online or on the day. PYSANKY CLASS: Greenwich Free Library’s After-School Studio program presents local artist Christine Levy for a class in the art of Ukrainian egg painting, or pysanky. The workshop will be offered from 3:00-5:00 pm on Tuesday, March 19th, in the library’s Community Room. This program is open to adults and kids ages 12 and up. FOREST BATHING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. The spring equinox will kick off our weekly forest bathing once again! Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner-rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings and it is approximately a 2-hour program. A small mat is beneficial to ensure a dry seat. This program is limited to those age 14 and up. Pay $5 per person (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. SEED STARTING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 2pm. Of many traditional ways to acknowledge the spring equinox, a favorite includes celebrating the re-awakening of the earth with new growth, and stating intentions for the new season. MOONLIGHT HIKE: Are you interested in traversing the trails of Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park at night? View nature in a new light, or lack thereof, as you walk the trails under the full moon.
