Stendly Fernandes, Martin Chaves find the net for the winners
Vasco: Churchill Brothers’ I-League campaign might finally be picking up steam after a hard-fought 2-1 win against Shillong Lajong FC at the Tilak Maidan on Monday. The victory offers a glimmer of hope for a stronger second half of the season.
After this win, the Goa side now have 20 points from 17 matches, while Shillong Lajong remain at 26 points from 17 outings.
It would have been reasonable to expect that Churchill felt like the underdogs going into the encounter, even if they were the hosts for the game.
And yet, their game bucked any assumptions made prior.
Churchill eventually broke the deadlock in the 15th minute via Stendly Fernandes. From a free kick on the right, Lalremruata launched a curler into the six-yard box, which was punched clear by Chalieu, albeit into the path of Fernandes, who took a touch and blasted the ball into the net from the top of the box.
