The local charity, The Bridge on 7th Shelter, has received a grant of $5,000 from the Baxter, MN-based Country Inn & Suites, as part of the Your Community, Your Choice Program by Choice Hotels International. Initiated in 2019, this initiative celebrates and enables local hotel proprietors to contribute positively to their communities. The Bridge on 7th Shelter plans to allocate the grant towards operational expenses.
Owned by the IGO Legacy Hotel Group, Country Inn & Suites in Baxter actively participates in community support, including various fundraising efforts for local charities, honoring veterans by placing flags at the local cemetery, and organizing an annual blood drive.
The grant was officially handed over to The Bridge on 7th Shelter on February 24, 2024, with Bill Wear, the manager, accepting the check. Tedi Russel, a spokesperson for the shelter, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting its use in covering essential overhead costs like rent, utilities, and supplies necessary for the shelter’s operations.
The Bridge on 7th Shelter, known for providing a secure overnight refuge for adults facing homelessness in the Brainerd Lakes Area, was established through a collaborative effort involving Bridges of Hope, law enforcement, Crow Wing County, nonprofits, church groups, and community members. Since its opening on December 3, 2021, it has served 277 unique individuals, providing 4,936 nights of shelter against the harsh Minnesota winters.
